  • Abstract

Refinements – an Inherent Part of Every Aligner Treatment or an Avoidable Nuisance?

In this presentation, we will investigate the causes of refinements. A distinction must be made between:

    • patient-related causes (compliance, exaggerated expectations – one of the most common reasons, inadequate information)

    • treatment-related causes (selection of the wrong treatment method, unpredictable tooth movements, incorrect ClinCheck®, inadequate treatment process evaluation)

We analyse the reasons for refinements and, based on the evaluation of over 4000 treatments carried out in our practice, present strategies for the greatest possible reduction of avoidable corrections. In practice, optimising these processes has a positive impact not only on the appointment calendar but also on finances and, most importantly, on patient satisfaction.
